IS WOMEN AN OBJECT OF PROGENY?
This Women's Day do ponder ...

A lot of Women Empowerment echoes on WOMEN’S Day. But what about rest of the year? Ironically in India there exist two minds. One which recognizes women and her power. While the other treat women a household thing, their property to be exact, moreover a material to procreate. On one hand, where women are sitting on top most designations of the maximum renowned institutions, the others are still struggling to have a secured domain in their home.

It’s an irony that in the 21st century, when the world is talking about women empowerment and gender equality, there are many who still treat women only as a ‘child making machine’- one that can be easily, and repeatedly, replaced in case she fails to perform its primary function of producing the man’s progeny.

Though, as young kids we all did hear stories of medieval India when a ‘banjh’ (infertile) women were disrespected and neglected just like a barren a piece of land if she failed to give the family its offspring, it’s SAD that this mindset has changed for some in these modern times. In Indian society, people are unhappy at female childbirth but they desperately require female as object of progeny.

Real Cases

Dr A Suresh Kumar who is an experienced infertility specialist of Ashoka Superspeciality Hospital Raipur , Chhattisgarh says ‘Recently a case approached us where Salil (name changed) a fifty-seven years old male has married for the third time to Ritika (name changed) a 22 years old girl, in order to take forward his family. No doubt whatever emotions and affections the previous two women in his life hold, he moved out of his marriage since in early two marriages both the women failed to conceive. When this person underwent the first preliminary test, we realized that it was he who had low sperm count because of which he was unable to make a family. It is hard to believe that such horrendous acts actually take place in the world, but that is the reality. How easily without much ado, in this case, females were treated as not so important in the life when they were found unable to reproduce.’

The family of Veenugopal (name changed) made him married to the sister of his wife Kanta Rao (name changed) just because his wife was unable to reproduce. Kanta Rao’s family was constantly threatened that if her sister will not marry Veenugopal then they will defame their daughter in society and leaves her. Girl’s family finally surrendered and allowed their second daughter to remarry with the same person. This person is now living with two wives openly in society. Finally, when he still failed to make her second wife pregnant, he secretly came for the treatment so that nobody came to know about it. It’s really sad to see what hypocrisy exist in the society.

Pls, Note: Polygamy is prohibited, but in villages still this practice is going on.
