Beware
of tumour inside Eye
A small lesion present on the white part of eye can grow towards cornea and can
affect your vision. Limbal Dermoid is a congenital anomaly which starts
increasing during puberty and may even decrease eye sight to the extent of
making you blind. Patients who were operated and saved from this rare disease
thanked the team of doctor- Dr Charudutt
kalamkar, Dr Anil Gupta,Dr Vinay Jaiswal, and Dr Sunil Mal of Shree
Ganesh Vinayak Hospital.
Limbal
Dermoid patients
are on average quite young, with the majority of lesions diagnosed before
puberty. Dermoids are congenital in nature, but enlarge over time; hence, the
lesion may not be given much regard until the individual reaches adolescence. Smaller
lesions are typically asymptomatic, but larger dermoids may cause discomfort in
the form of dry eye symptoms, conjunctival irritation or lagophthalmos. Visual
acuity may also be impacted by larger dermoids, since these lesions may
contribute to the development of astigmatism or encroach onto the visual axis.
Dr
Anil Gupta, Eye Specialist , Shree Ganesh Vinayak Hospital said “Korba
resident Kiran Kumar Sen aged 16 yrs, Kansa,Janjgir resident Neera Bai Sahu 19
yrs, Om Lata Patel aged 18 yrs from Basna & Rajkumar Joshi aged 12yrs from
Birebat Durg initially did’nt have any problem but as the size of the tumor
increased they started facing dry eye symptoms & discomfort. Limbal Dermoid
may be associated with other organ deformity. Therefore it was advised to them
to undergo timely surgery sclerokerotomy so that repercussion can be
avoided.”
